Large, long antique chest of drawers with two short drawers over two long ones, made in the 1890s probably. It's made of pine and mahogany, with mahogany veneer drawer fronts. Mostly original wooden knobs with some replacements of the right sort of age; fat turned feet below. The top is pine with the dovetail joints exposed: this piece had either a mahogany top board or even a whole other piece that sat on top. It's unusually wide for its height. Condition is pretty good structurally: it's sound enough and the drawers run properly. We've been through and tightened any loose joints etc. Cosmetically there's loads going on: obviously the pine top as mentioned; there's various bits of veneer missing as well as parts of the 'cock' beading that goes around the drawer edges (see pics). A couple of slightly raised areas of veneer. Right side base trim has been replaced. The old finish on the drawers is very worn and there are plenty of dings, scuffs and marks etc. But for all that it's a very pleasant and warm feeling piece: we've waxed it to mellow it down a bit. It could be properly stripped but you'd probably lose more than you gained. Could of course be painted but I think it's a charming and authentic piece, and we've kept the price reasonable to reflect its condition Dimensions: 137cm x 54cm x 93cm high
